Buying second hand carburettors (Cars).
I do not sell carburetors. You may wish to consider the following points before you buy secondhand:
Cars: Webers and Dellortos
Be very careful when purchasing second hand carburetors. Remember that all carburettors of the same make and nominal size (eg: Weber 40 DCOE) are NOT the same. As well as any differing internal build specifications, bodies can differ radically thus while some are universally suited to tuning many others are not.
The following will mean trouble ahead!!
•Broken/cracked castings. (Broken float posts are not apparent from external examination)
•Missing parts.
•Stripped threads and seized fixings.
•Seized idle mixture screws.
•Evidence of water contamination in the float bowls and elsewhere.
•Damage to the bores in the area of the throttle butterflies caused by damaged, loose or poorly adjusted butterflies or worn shaft bearings
•Twisted throttle shafts.
• Rough or locked bearings and/or bearing housings that are a loose fit in the body.
General: Try and buy carburettors that are already set up for your engine from a reputable source. Parts are expensive and you have a multiplier of 2 or 4 for most of them. Good luck!!
